LOT 301
Dam of Gr.1 winner Morandi an ongoing love story for Brummitt

Jeremy Brummitt has a long standing relation with the Bering mare VEZINA, whom he purchased four years ago from La Motteraye Consignment on behalf of Bjorn Nielsen and this time around went to €105,000 in the name of Seven Hills Bloodstock, a partnership which will involve Jan and Maja Sundström's Team Hogdala, whose daughter Anna consigned the mare through her Coulonces Consignment.

Vezina is a half-sister to the Group-winning mare Marie de Ken, who went to produce the Gr.1 performers Charmo and Ana Marie for Ecurie Bader. Although not able to win herself, Vezina has gone one better than her sibling in the breeding shed as a mating with Holy Roman Emperor resulted in the Gr.1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud scorer MORANDI.

She is lovely mare that I am actually buying for the second time, confirmed Brummitt, before quipping: after many hours of hard thinking we have decided to send her to Holy Roman Emperor next year.

Trotting breeders make a splash into thoroughbred world

A group of young breeders originated from the trotting world teamed up to make their first foray into thoroughbred stock, which materialised in lot 283 MELBOURNE SHUFFLE, for which they paid €100,000. Offered by Haras d'Etreham, the four-year-old daughter of Street Cry had some strong credentials to her name as a a winner out of a full sister to the Gr.1 heroine and top class producers SEQUOYAH and LISTEN. As a result, her page features the names of Henrythenavigator, Queen Cleopatra, Magician, Dolphin Street, and the icing on the cake was the Siyouni cover she carried around the ring.

Victor Langlais, who operates under the name Carel Bloodstock and has already invested in mares alongside Henri Bozo and Lady O'Reilly, signed the docket and indicated that he was branching out for the first time on behalf of a new partnership involving Jeoffrey Lerner's Haras de Marancourt, Ecurie du Graal and Emmanuel Leclerc.

This mare hails from a good family that keeps producing black type horses. Her two-year-old half-sister was Listed-placed this season and could win a Group race next year. She will go to Haras de Marancourt and the Siyouni foal she is carrying will be offered at auction. Our aim is to develop a commercial venture.

LOT 195
Monceaux, Skymarc, Lordship partnership buy Listed winner Qatar Power for €380K

Le Havre's QATAR POWER was an admirably consistent performer in Listed races over 1400-1600m, winning the L. Prix de Bagatelle and placing on three more occasions. That perseverance paid off in the sales ring as she was knoched down for €380,000 to Patricia Boutin's Suprina acting on behalf of Ecurie des Monceaux, Skymarc Farm and Lordship Stud - the same partnership that invested in Wertheimer et Frere's Silimeri earlier in the sale.

Her dam is a half-sister to the Gr.1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains performer BERINE'S SON, with Gr.3 Prix Thomas Bryon scorer CANDIDE also on the page.

There is a lot of quality about her, commented Henri Bozo. She is by a top class sire and was consistent in her races throughout the season. This is a family that also brings speed so we are delighted to add her to our broodmare band.

Million price tag for American-bound Gr.2 winner PARVANEH

Already a Group performer as a juvenile, Darius Racing's three-year-old filly PARVANEH was campaigned by Waldemar Hickst to a trio of top class performances this season which included victories in the Gr.2 Badener Stutenpreis, Gr.3 Schwarzgold-Rennen  and a 4th place in the Gr.1 Preis von Europa. With a rating of 110 and a catalogue page which included the consistent Group winners NAYYIR and SKY HUNTER, she raised plenty of hands and James Delahooke had to round off his bid to €1 million to sceal the deal.

I have bought her on behalf of American owner Pursuit of Racing and she will be covered next year, pointed Delahooke. She was obviously a tremendous racehorse and is a prized addition to any broodmare band.

LOT 170
Frankel filly foal a €450K buy from Hugo Merry

Haras des Capucines consigned the sole Frankel foal to go through the ring, a chesnut daughter of Ascot Family who won at Listed level as a juvenile. There is plenty of speed in her genes as she hails from the family of Lethal Force, G Force and Flotilla and she clearly seems to be adding some precocity to her offspring as her first foal was the Gr.2 Prix du Robert Papin scorer and Gr.1 Prix Morny runner-up FAMILY ONE and the second to race was a Listed performer at two.

Hugo Merry signed the docket at €450,000 for the chesnut and commented:

She is for an American client of mine, Andrew Rosen, who has horses in training both in the US and in Europe, he notably has a share in [2016 Gr.2 Vintage Stakes winner] War Decree with Aidan O'Brien. We will keep her in France to make her eligible for the premiums and then work on a plan. I expected to have to pay that sort of price with such a beautiful pedigree, and she is a lovely physical as well.

LOT 158
€850K Gr.1 performer CAMPROCK bound for Japan

Anna Drion always had a special connection with CAMPROCK as the daughter of Myboycharlie was bred by her own daughter Moa and raced by a partnership in which she kept an interest after the filly fetched €30,000 as a yearling. She went on to win her first three starts including the L. Prix Rose de Mai and Gr.3 Prix Penelope and only went down by a head in the Gr.1 Prix Saint-Alary. She was then out of luck in the Gr.1 Prix de Diane and came home with an injury that has kept her away from the track since. Her performances added further lustre to a pedigree page that traces back to Sookera and Hasili.

Bids sparked from all around the ring until Emmanuel de Seroux offered €850,000 on behalf of Northern Farm.

She was a top class race filly and is a gorgeous individual, pretty much the whole package as they say, said de Seroux. We have been following her all year and are delighted to have secured her. She might go to Deep Impact.

Talvard shells out €750K for Wertheimer's Reponds Moi

Pierre Talvard, who operates Haras du Cadran, has been lucky with his purchases at ARQANA's Breeding Stock Sale, who have recently included the Stakes performer Kartica for €120,000. Her first foal sold for €200,000 and famously turned into a dual Gr.1 winner under the name QEMAH, while a half-brother fetched €160,000 this year.

Not resting on his laurels with such a gem in his broodmare band, Talvard went to €750,000 to secure REPONDS MOI, one of the stars of the Wertheimer et Frère draft as a Stakes performing daughter of More Than Ready and Gr.1 Cheveley Park Stakes PAS DE REPONSE, making her a sister to three Listed winners. There is a lot more to come from the family as one of these siblings to Reponds Moi produced this year's Classic trial winner DICTON, who ran 3rd in both the Gr.1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains and Gr.1 Prix du Jockey Club, while 2016 Listed victrix OKANA appears further down the page.

I really fell in love with her, Talvard enthused. I slightly exceeded my budget but my partners stood by me and we are over the moon to have secured her.

LOT 131
Moubray back into preferred family with €320K purchase of Iromea

As a Stakes-winning daughter of Dansili and granddaughter of leading producer Kenmist, Haras de Saint-Pair's IROMEA was always to be one of the coveted lots and it took a bid of €320,000 from Crispin de Moubray to outbid Henri Bozo and Patricia Boutin. Kenmist was a Listed winner herself and took another step up in the breeding shed as the dam of four black type horses headed by Gr.1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp victrix Grey Lilas, who in turn went on to produce the dual Classic heroine Golden Lilac a well as Listed scorer Golden Guepard.

This is obviously a family I love, said Moubray. Without being proud I would tell you that it is a family I constructed myself, since I bought Grey Lilas as a yearling for Gestut Ammerland and she went on to produce all these good horses. I have bought her for a British breeder who keeps his mares in the UK as well as in France so I am unsure yet where she is heading next.

LOT 122
Stakes winning Literato filly to Stroud Coleman BS for €220,000

Anthony Stroud had to offer €220,000 to sceal the deal on KAMBURA, a gutsy two-year-old daughter of Literato who won the Listed Criterium de Lyon and took 2nd in the Gr.3 Prix Miesque just a month before the sale. Out of the Kaldoun mare Tambura, she is a half-sister to three Stakes winners as well as to the dam of Gr.3 scorer and stallion NATIVE KHAN.

She has a very good race record and a nice pedigree, commented Stroud. I am not aware of the immediate plans for her though.

LOT 112
€420K half-sister to G1W Silasol to Monceaux and partners

SILIMIRI, a three-year-old Dansili half-sister to the Gr.1 Prix Marcel Boussac and Gr.1 Prix Saint-Alary heroine SILASOL, attracted bids from all around the sales ring and Henri Bozo, bidding alongside Patricia Boutin of Suprina, had to go to €420,000 to secure the dark bay. The family, which also includes Gr.1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe scorer SOLEMIA, gained even greater appeal this season when THE GURKHA landed the Gr.1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains.

She is for a partnership involving Ecurie des Monceaux, Lady O'Reilly's Ecurie Skymarc Farm and Trevor Harris's Lordship Stud, commented Bozo. She is everything we look for: a young, well-bred filly from a leading breeding operation that will keep supporting the family. These are the criteria we have used since the begining of Ecurie des Monceaux and they have proved to work well for us.

LOT 101
Fairway Partners fork out €135,000 for Camelot filly

French-born, US-based agent Hubert Guy has supported Charles Briere from the day the young Frenchman started his Fairway Consignment on the back of several years gaining experience in America. The team have enjoyed some respectable results so far, notably including a Siyouni filly they bought for €52,000 at this sale a year ago and reoffered at the August Yearling Sale with a €130,000 price tag.

The pair will be hoping for more of the same with lot 101, a filly from the second crop of Camelot who was offered by Haras du Hoguenet and commanded a final bid of €135,000. Her second dam is the Gr.3 performer Premiere Creation, whom Guy purchased back in 1998 on behalf of William Preston. She went on to produce the black type winner LEO'S STARLET and ANABAA CREATION.

I have bought her on behalf of a syndicate assembled around Charles Briere of Fairway Consignment, said Guy. We have done well together so far and hopefully this filly will maintain the momentum. This is obviously a family I know well and the filly really stood out as an individual.

LOT 81
Puerari 'springs' back into Allegretta family for €200K

Mountain Spring, a winning three-year-old daughter of Teofilo, was the second representative of the Godolphin consignment to reach €200,000 when knocked down for that precise amount to Eric Puerari. Out of the Listed scorer Reunite, she boasts even greater credentials owing to her second and third dams, respectively Allez Les Trois and Allegretta. These arguments were not lost on the co-owner of Haras des Capucines, who was involved with the purchase of Allegretta who went on to produce a plethora of Deauville sales toppers and Group 1 winners.

She is for a group of clients of Haras des Capucines, commented Puerari. Thirty years ago we went to America with my late friend Michel Henochsberg and brought back Allegretta so it is nice to get back into the family.

LOT 72
€220,000 Dubawi mare heads down under for Jenkinson/Hutchins tandem

Chortle, a five-year-old daughter of Dubawi out of Portmanteau, making her a full sister to triple Gr.1 winner Hunter's Light, commanded a closing bid of €220,000 from Neil Jenkinson acting on behalf of John and Fu Mei Hutchins who race under the name Element Hill.

From the large and highly popular draft of Godolphin, the bay was offered in foal to Exceed And Excel and is descended from a leading Aga Khan family with the likes of Darshaan, Dar Re Mi and Daliapour all featured under the third dam.

This mare is by a champion sire in both hemisphere, Jenkinson offered, from a historic family. You can't find that sort of pedigree at home. We will foal her down in France and then decide if we cover her Southern Hemisphere time by a horse like Siyouni or we send her straight to Australia.

I've been lucky with this sale and with Aga Khan families before. Back in 2010 I bought Mandawara for €30,000 and her third foal Khan, also by Exceed And Excel, is the current favourite for the Golden Slipper.
