Another Siyouni six-figure colt for Jim McCartan

Lot 478 from the draft of Haras d'Etreham was the second Siyouni colt of the afternoon to break the six-figure barrier at €105,000 when selling to Jim McCartan. The colt hails from the Aga Khan family of Gr.1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches heroine Zalaiyka and was picked up for €37,000 by BB Ltd at last year's ARQANA Breeding Stock sale.

He is a beautiful colt with an exceptional walk, commented the agent. I am a big fan of the sire. He will probably be sent to Ireland first to be prepped for the breeze ups.

Declaration Of War colt snapped up by Rouget for €100K

A colt from the first crop of dual Group 1 winner Declaration Of War, who started his career in the care of Jean-Claude Rouget before switching to Aidan O'Brien as a three-year-old, was the trainer's pick of the v.2 Yearling Sale catalogue who paid €100,000 for the Haras des Capucines offering. He is the second foal out of the winning mare Super Pie, and the first, a three-year-old colt by Makfi has already won four races. The second dam Super Lina was placed at Listed and Group level, and this is the family of Steinlen and Stacelita.

I know the sire well as I trained him, commented Rouget. He was top of my list and I delighted to have him. Now we'll wait and see what the future holds!

Thierry de la Héronnière's Haras d'Ellon led through the ring a colt by leading 2-year-old influence Siyouni and out of the winning juvenile Ponte Di Legno. The latter is a daughter of Porlezza, winner of three Group races including the Gr.1 Prix Maurice de Gheest for Deauville trainer Yves de Nicolay, and she also produced the black type juveniles Pontenuovo and Ponte Vespucci. Roger Marley signed the docket under the name of Margaret O'Toole and explained:

We have two Siyounis that we love at home and this one was my pick of the catalogue. He is a handsome individual with a great page and will be re-offered here at the Breeze Up sale. We paid a bit more than we intended but we really wanted to buy the horse.

A Kendargent half-brother to the Listed winner and Gr.2 Prix de Sandringham runner-up LA BERMA will race for the same connections as his older sister after being knocked down for €80,000 to owner Jean-Louis Bouchard, who has in the past been involved with three Prix du Jockey Club winners in Blue Canari, Ragmar and Dream Well. Agent Gérard Larrieu of Chantilly Bloodstock Agency commented:

This colt will join Fabrice Chappet, who already trained La Berma and was determined to secure him. Apart from the colour, he is rather different from his sister but is very well put together and a tremendous walker.

€85,000 Le Havre colt gets v.2 off to a solid start

An athletic colt by leading stallion Le Havre from the draft of La Motteraye Consignment was the centre of a lot of attention and Sylvain Vidal, who stands the sire at his Haras de la Cauvinière, had to go to €85,000 to see off Roger Marley and Alessandro Botti. Already named Espoir Parfait, the bay is the third foal out of the winning American Post mare Eviane, herself a half-sister to the Gr.1 Beverly D. Stakes heroine ECLAIR DE LUNE. The latter was the first black type winner bred at Cauvinière and this colt was bred in partnership by Mrs. Elisabeth Vidal and Thierry Koehler.

I know the family well as his was raised at home, offered Vidal. The two-year-old by Rajsaman is in training with Alessandro Botti and I have heard that he is doing well. The cross has proved efficient [notably delivering the exciting Prix des Marettes winner La Cochère]. I have bought him for Gérard Augustin-Normand, I don't think there are any partners for the time being.
