Top priced National Hunt foal for half-brother to THELEME

With an eye-catching update following his half-brother THELEME’s victory in the Prix Serge Landon – Grand Prix d’Automne (Gr.1) at Auteuil last weekend, a son of Doctor Dino was subject to a long bidding war around the ring. It was finally Thierry Cyprès (Bridge Consignment) that gained the upper hand, securing the foal for €160,000. He said, 

Mr Benaroussi really wanted this foal also. He is outstanding and ticks all the boxes. His half-brother is excellent, and we have a lot of hopes for him.

€190,000 for Group winner LA BOETIE

Eagerly awaited in the ring, Prix Sagan (Gr.3) winner LA BOETIE (lot 820) was subject to a lot of interest around the ring. A winner over fences and hurdles, she also finished second in the Prix de Chambly (Gr.3) at Auteuil last season. This year, she has twice over fences and most recently was runner-up in the Prix Hopper (Gr.3). The four-year-old daughter of Saint des Saints is from the family of Group winners L’IMPERATOR, TIGER’S EYE, VETRIANO and LIANGA.

I’ve bought her for an Irish client, said the agent. Shes be a broodmare in France. She ticks all the boxes and shes a lovely  mare - she has everything that you could look for in a broodmare.

LOT 756
€95,000 for MARCHE NUPTIAL

Offered in foal to Doctor Dino by Haras de l’Hotellerie, MARCHE NUPTIAL was knocked down for €95,000. Pierre Boulard (PB Bloodstock) and Harold Kirk had the final say for the half-sister to Graded chase winner WEST WITH THE WIND, and Irish Graded placed MIDNIGHT GAME and NEW YEAR’S EVE, runner up in the Champion Bumper (Gr.1).

I like her a lot and she really stood out today, said Harold Kirk. Her half-brother Midnight Game was a good horse. Shes been bought for some clients of Willie Mullins that like breeding. She has a great pedigree page and is in foal to Doctor Dino - its hard to do better!

LOT 730
GLADY stays at Haras de Cercy

Offered from Élevage Cyprès carrying her first foal to Karaktar, GLADY (lot 730) was knocked down for €105,000 in favour of Thierry Cyprès. The Haras de Cercy homebred is none other than a half-sister to triple Prix la Haye Jousselin (Gr.1)  winner BIPOLAIRE, from the excellent family of Group 1 winners ORGANISEDCONFUSION, NUPSALA, RAZ DE MAREE and the talented MONCADOU, UCELLO II, LATITUDE, BVEZELAY and GRAND PARADIS.

After signing the docket, he commented,

Ive bought her for Mr. Sofiane Benaroussi, a friend. Shes a mare that I know well because she was born at the stud. Shes a half-sister to Bipolaire and from one of our great families that has produced a lot of champions. She is a good winner and has an exceptional physique. Im very happy for him and for us, because shell stay at home.

€90,000 for a son of Great Pretender

Out of Auteuil Listed placed GRAKOWNIA and offered from Haras des Sablonnets, a son of Great Pretender (lot 712) was knocked down for €90,000. Pierre Boulard (PB Bloodstock Services) signed the docket for the colt from the close family of Group 2 winner BAIE DES ILES.

LOT 698
Son of Goliath du Berlais for NBB Racing

Very active around the ring today, Nicolas Bertran de Balanda went to €85,000 to secure a son of Goliath du Berlais. Offered from Haras du Lieu des Champs, he is out of a sister to multiple Group winner including the Prix Alain du Breuil (Gr.1) FEU FOLLET, and hails from the family of the talented FAR WEST, FOU ET SAGE and FABULOUSLY.

Hell be trained by Francois Nicolle in France, said the agent. Hes a lovely horse, from a great family. I knew his dam that was very good although she didnt run much and hes a son of Goliath du Berlais that was a very good horse.

€150,000 for a half-sister to ST DONATS

After signing the docket yesterday at €85,000 for the first foal out of Listed winner PRESIDENTE LINE by Doctor Dino, Antonin Pelsy (Spincourt Bloodstock) made his presence felt once again today when striking for a half-sister to Prix Cambacérès (Gr .1) scorer ST DONATS, going to €150,000. Offered from Haras de Maulepaire, the daughter of Doctor Dino hails from the family of Group winners MARELLO and COGRY.

LOT 655
Son of Doctor Dino makes €200,000

Bred by Mr. Cerruti (Écurie Cerdeval) and offered from Haras des Pierres Follets, a son of Doctor Dino out of CAPRIKA BELLA made an historic top price for a National Hunt yearling in the ring today. From the family of  KAPGARDE and BARNEY DWAN, the colt was knocked down for €200,000 in favour of Paul Basquin (Saubouas Bloodstock), bidding on behalf of Génétique Obstacle.

We buy horses with the aim of either re-selling them or to make stallions, said Paul Basquin. He will most likely be gelded. Hes a beautiful son of Doctor Dino. Hes perfect physically with a walk that is out of the ordinary. His dam is by Poliglote and has already produced winners. He has everything that you want to see at a sale.

€128,000 for a daughter of Doctor Dino

A few minutes later, the gavel fell at €128,000 for a daughter of Doctor Dino also offered from Haras de Montaigu. Nicolas Bertran de Balanda (NBB Racing) had the final say for the filly, a half-sister to Auteuil winner OUT OF RISK, from the family of Group 1 winner ECHOES IN RAIN out of Listed scorer AMARANTINE.

After signing the docket, the agent said,

Shes georgous! She comes from a really good family that I like a lot. Shell go into training with David Cottin.

LOT 642
Son of No Risk At All for David Minton

During the 2018 Autumn Sale, David Minton (Highflyer Bllodstock) struck for a son of No Risk At All from Haras de Montaigu. Subsequently named JUBILESS EXPRESS, he won on his debut over hurdles in England and finished second last time. Today, Haras de Montaigu offered his brother, for which Minton went to €82,000. The well bred colt is from the. Close family of Grade 1 winners THE LISTENER, OFFSHORE ACCOUNT, YORKILL and Graded winners DISTANT THUNDER, FORK LIGHTNING, DOONEYS GATE.

He was right at the top of my short list!, said the agent. I bought his brother Jubilee Express here a few years ago, and he has a lot of potential and could become a very good chaser. I really like his pedigree, and its a family that has a lot of winners and his dam is by Presenting. Were very happy.

€85,000 for half-brother to Group winner JUNTOS GANAMOS

Offering the final two thirds of the National Hunt yearlings, the third day of the Autumn Sale began on Wednesday. With a big update since the catalogue was published following his half-brother JUNTOS GANAMOS’s win in the Prix Congress (Gr.2) last weekend at Auteuil, a son of Saint Des Saints was knocked down for €85,000. Offered from Haras du Lieu des Champs, the colt is out of Group placed USTED ME CARA from the family of Auteuil Prix Finot (L.) winner VICTORIA’S STAR and the talented IAMASTAR, JUST A STAR, ULCAR D’AIRY, DOMINATEUR and GRANDEUR D’AME.

He was my pick of the day, said the agent after signing the docket. He is by one of the best stallions and his dam has produced good performers. His half-brother is a good horse, and his victory at Auteuil last weekend showed it. Ive bought him for Génétique Obstacle, and hell stay in France but its too early to decide on a trainer

LOT 561
€85,000 for the first foal out of PRESIDENTE LINE

In 2019 at the Summer Sale, Haras de Montaigu bought PRESIDENTE LINE, that had finished third in the Prix d'Arles (L.) at Auteuil, through Paul Nataf. The same year, she went on to win the Prix Bernard Secly (L.) at Auteuil in her new colours, before retiring to stud.

The story continued today as her first foal, a son of Doctor Dino, was sold for €85,000. It was Antonin Pelsy (Spincourt Bloodstock) that signed the docket for the colt, that hails from the close family of the talented INVICTER and WORLDBEST.

Son of Doctor Dino for Highflyer Bloodstock

Among the last lots to go through the ring today was a son of Doctor Dino that drew a lot attention in the ring. Knocked down for €90,000, it was David Minton (Highflyer Bloodstock) that signed the docket for the colt from offered by The Channel Consignment on behalf of Haras du Mesnil from the family of Group winners FUBBS, BEAU SAONOIS and LA GRIOTTERIE.

Hes a lovely colt by Doctor Dino, said the agent. His dam is by Poliglote, something that counts a lot and it’s a lovely family that I know well. He’ll go to England to be trained.

€130,000 for a son of Goliath du Berlais

A little later in the day, this time the turn of the National Hunt yearlings, a son of Goliath du Berlais was knocked down for €130,000. The Chantilly based trainer Davide Satalia had the final say for the son of NO NEWS, a half-brother to Group winners MESSAGERE and PARADISO, consigned by Haras des Sablonnets. The well-bred colt is from the family of NO RISK AT ALL and triple Grade 1 winner NICKNAME.

Hes a lovely horse, with good size, said Davide Satalia. Hes from a great family and has everything going for him.

Two lots for Guy Petit

Reserved for young National Hunt horses, the second day of the Autumn Sale began this morning with the two-year-old stores. French agent Guy Petit signed for two lots minutes apart. The first, a son of Karaktar, was knocked down for €85,000. The colt is out of a sister to Group 3 winner THE READER out of dual Auteuil Listed scorer VINTAGE. Very well bred, he hails from the family of Graded winners INVICTER and PORTICELLO as well as the talented HANAWA, PRESIDENTE LINE, WORLD BEST and MOOD.

He has everything to be a racehorse!, said the agent. Ive bought him for my client Clive Boultbee Brooks. He will be trained in France and time will tell us whether he will win the Champion Hurdle!

Following on from that purchase, he signed the docket at €80,000 for a daughter of Saint Des Saints. Offered from Haras de Clairefontaine, the half-sister to black-type winners CHIRICO VALLIS and FIDELIO VALLIS is from the close family of Group scorer JERICO VALLIS. 

Guy Petit said of his second purchase, 

I’ve also bought her for the same client. His dam has been a good producer and she is a filly that could make a good racemare as well as broodmare. We’re very happy with these two purchases, and these were the ones we wanted to get today!

€235,000 for a three parts sister to EPATANTE

An eye-catching winner on her debut, the Armand Lefeuvre trained JOYEUSE (AQPS) was sold for €235,000 to Hubert Barbe (Horse Racing Avisory) and Charlie Swan. The three-year-old daughter of No Risk At All is a three parts sister to multiple Grade 1 winner EPATANTE.

She’s a very nice big filly that will continue to mature, said Charlie Swan. We already have her three parts sister EPATANTE, and we hope she will be as good. The market is strong, so we are happy to have her.

LOT 376
NIAGARO knocked down for €240,000

A Listed winner with a rating 106, the Sarah Steinberg trained NIAGARO was offered from Haras d'Ombreville. Bidding on the telephone, Marco Bozzi went to €240,000 for the son of the excellent Adlerflug and a half brother to the Classic winner NOVEMBA.

I’ve bought him for Mr and Mrs Roveda (Assiro Stud), said Marco Bozzi. He’s a lovely colt that showed his class when easily winning a Listed race. He’s very well bred and we really like his sire Adlerflug. He’ll stay in training in France.

€240,000 for the black-type ZANNDABAD

Racing in the colours of His Highness The Aga Khan and trained by Francis-Henri Graffard, ZANNDABAD made €240,000 when sold to Irish trainer Tony Martin. Third in a Listed race last season, he won his most recent start over 2,100 metres and was third ib a Listed race since the catalogue was printed. The three-year-old son of Iffraaj is a half-brother to Group winner ZANNDA and is from the family of the exceptional Champion ZARKAVA. 

After signing the docket, his future trainer said,

I’m very happy. He’s a horse that was really recommended to me by Toby Jones. He’s a good looking horse and we’ll see how he comes together in the next few weeks before deciding on his future.

SHAIYHAR for the Australians Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young

Offered from the Aga Khan Studs, SHAIYDHAR was just one of a number of Australian purchases during the day. Sold for €300,000 online to Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young (Busuttin Racing), the son of Camelot trained by Francis-Henri Graffard won at ParisLongchamp on his second outing before taking the Prix Ashmore over 2,900 metres at Clairefontaine after the catalogue was published.

LOT 369
GAUCHER sold for €260,000 to Pierre Boulard, Harold Kirk and Willie Mullins

A winner on his latest start over 2,000 metres at ParisLongchamp last month for Carlos Laffon-Parias in the colours of Wertheimer & Frère, GAUCHER was knocked down for €260,000. The trio of Pierre Boulard, Harold Kirk and Willie Mullins had the final say for the son of Frankel out of Prix Vermeille (Gr.1) winner LEFT HAND. The three-year-old has a current rating of 91 and hails from the top family of PLUMANIA.

I really like this horse. He’s a lovely stamp of a horse and has a lot of class, said the agent Harold Kirk. He could also run on the flat from time to time but we he hope that he will be good over hurdles - maybe he will be the next Hurricane Fly!

LOT 363
WESTON for Irish trainer Gordon Elliott

Very active during the day, the Irish born English based agent Tom Malone notably went to €240,000 to buy WESTON.  Most recently fourth in the The Länd Trophy (Gr.3) over 2400 metres at Baden-Baden following two consecutive victories, the son of Soldier Hollow trained by Andreas Suborics was offered as a Wild Card from Haras d'Ombreville.

Everything happened in the last 40 minutes when Gordon Elliott called me because he had a client interested in the horse, said Tom Malone. I told him that he was very good looking and that probably he will make a lot of money. Soldier Hollow is a very good sire and as well as his performances, this horse is strong and well balanced. He ticks a lot of boxes.

LOT 364
Group winner DJO FRANCAIS for BBA IRELAND

Victorious in the Prix Bertrand du Breuil (Gr.3) following a win in the Prix Jacques Laffitte (L.) in the spring, DJO FRANÇAIS was knocked down for €320,000. Very consistent with a rating of 104, the Jean-Claude Rouget trained colt also took the Prix Saint-Patrick (L.) last season. Bidding via ARQANA Online, the BBA Ireland team had the final say for the four-year-old son of Intello from the close family of Group 2 winner PORT GUILLAUME and Group winner NO LIMIT CREDIT.

€100,000 for CAPRICE DES DIEUX

A winner at Sables-d'Olonne after the catalogue was printed after taking the Prix Pelléas (L.) and finishing runner-up in the Prix Eugène Adam (Gr.2) last season, CAPRICE DES DIEUX was knocked down for €100,000. Stuart Boman (Blandford Bloodstock) had the final say on behalf of Ontrack Thoroughbreds and Annabel Neashan Racing when signing the docket for the son of Declaration Of War trained by Nicolas Clément.

LOT 362
€135,000 for the Wild Card CORCOVADO

A little later, the Wild Card CORCOVADO was knocked down for €135,000. Placed in seven of his 10 outings this year and with a rating of 95, the Bruno de Montzey trained colt won his two most recent starts over 1200 and 1400 metres.  It was the agent Alexandra Saint Martin (ASM Bloodstock) that had the final say on the three-year-old son of Kheleyf from the close family of Neville Sellwood Stakes (Gr.3) winner MOUNT POPA àd Classic winner KRIS KIN.

He’ll go to Saudi Arabia, said Alexandra Saint-Martin. I’ve bought him for a new client based in Kuweit. He’s a horse that ticks a lot of boxes - he’s got stamina, a good attitude and goes well on the sand in the mornings, that makes us hope that it will suit him.

Carini goes to Australia
Runner up in the Prix Vulcain (L) last month over 2,500 metres at Deauville on his latest start, the Aga Khan Studs owned CARINI was eagerly awaited around the ring. Following a long bidding war, the gavel finally fell at €600,000 in favour of Nicolas Lefevre (Equos Racing) on the telephone with Louis Le Metayer (Astute Bloodstock). 
The winner of three of his five outings, the Francis-Henri Graffard trained colt has a rating of 102 and is a son of the excellent Siyouni out of triple Group winner CANDARLIYA.
 
I’ve bought him for my old boss Louis Le Metayer, for one of his Australian clients, said Nicolas Lefevre. It’s been four years since we last bought together - there is a lot of competition for horses like him. We’ve followed him for a long time. We’re delighted the story continues with him!

Wild Card GARACHICO goes to Australia

An unmissable occasion for National Hunt professionals, the Autumn Sale began on Monday with a day reserved for flat and jump horses-in-training. Offered as a Wild Card, the Carlos Laffon-Parias trained GARACHICO was subject to a lot of interest around the ring.  A winner and fourth in the Prix de Condé (Gr.3) at two last season, this year he finished third in the Prix Noailles (Gr.3) before finishing fourth in the Prix Hocquart (Gr.2). It was Sebastien Desmontils (Chauvigny Global Equine) and Johnny McKeever (McKeever Bloodstock) that went to €205,000 for the three-year-old son of Ribchester out of dual Group winner FRINE.

He’ll join the stable of Troy Corstens at Flemington in Australia said Johnny McKeever. He’s a lovely horse that vetted well and a good rating - we’re very happy with our purchase. They don’t breed stayers in Australia so there is a lot of demand for these kind of horses, even more so when they are ready to run for next season.
