LOT 255
Sister to Vue Fantastique commands €255K from Italian agent

Close to the end of proceedings, a daughter of Le Havre consigned by Haras de Grandcamp was the centre of an extended bidding battle between French owner Steeve Burggraf and Italian agent Leonardo Gatto Roissard. The latter had the final word at €255,000 for the half-sister to Listed winner CALLING OUT and to VUE FANTASTIQUE, who won the Gr.3 Prix de Psyché after the catalogue was printed. Schwartz returns to yearling well with €260K Iffraaj filly

Michel Zerolo of Oceanic Bloodstock had the final say at €260,000 on an Iffraaj filly, the first foal out of the Listed placed DELHI. The filly was bred by the partnership of Lady O'Reilly's Ecurie Skymarc Farm and Ecurie des Monceaux and consigned by the latter.

She is for Martin Schwartz, for hadn't been buying yearlings for a while, indicated Zerolo. She is a beautiful individual by a sire who has had success with his fillies. I liked her a lot and so did Jean-Claude Rouget, who will train her.

LOT 234
Invincible Spirit filly brings massive rewards to friends' syndicate

Lot 234 was undoubtedly the yearling whose pedigree page experienced the most dramatic turn for the better after the catalogue was printed. Six weeks ago, she was the daughter of an 18-year-old mare and half-sister to two black-type horses headed by the dual Listed scorer and multiple Group performer EVAPORATION. On 30 July, her two-year-old Oasis Dream half-sister POLYDREAM became the eye-catching winner of the coveted Prix de Lisieux, run just across the road at La Touques racecourse, and 48 hours before going through the ring she maintained her unbeaten record when running away with the Gr.3 Shadwell Prix du Calvados.

Their dam Polygreen was bought for €200,000 eighteen months ago at the ARQANA Breeding Stock sale by Ecurie des Monceaux, who had put together a syndicate of friends and young professionals keen to dip their toes into the breeding industry. The Listed-winning mare offered by Wertheimer et Frère was carrying to Invincible Spirit, and the resulting filly sold for €400,000 today on a bid from David Redvers and Ghislain Bozo, with the likes of Ross Doyle and Gérard Larrieu relegated to underbidder status.

She is for the same syndicate for which we bought the Kingman half-sister to Wings Of Eagles, commented Redvers. I saw her six weeks ago at the farm, before Polydream came about, and absolutely loved her. She is a very athletic type and light on her feet, exactly what we are looking for. Now we'll just take her back to Longholes, sit back and watch Polydream win her Group 1.

LOT 231
Hong Kong Jockey Club finally get their hands on €240K Siyouni colt

Mark Richards and Nick Columb wore a smile of relief after signing for lot 231 at €240,000, having tried to secure a colt by Haras de Bonneval's Siyouni for a long time. The colt ouf of the Listed performer Peinted Song was offered by Haras de Montaigu and hails from the family of Peintre Celebre.

This will make our CEO happy, quipped Richards. We have been trying to get hold of a Siyouni for a long time and looked at quite a few so we are delighted to have found one that fitted the bill and was within our budget. Our CEO is very keen on the sire, which we think will suit Hong Kong very well. This colt is a massive type of horse who won't do much for the time being and be re-offered at our sale.

LOT 219
€300K Frankel colt Hong-Kong bound

A May birthday is rarely an asset in the sales ring, but there are some notable exceptions as was proved by a son of Frankel offered by Ecurie des Monceaux, who commanded a €300,000 closing bid from the Hong Kong Jockey Club. He is out of the dual Group 3 victrix NOELANI, herself a full sister to the champion sprinter NAMID, and Richards commented on his second purchase of a son of Frankel:

Being born on May 1, he is a very immature horse which suits us. There is no way he could be a two-year-old and he will come to our sale [in Hong Kong] in 18 months, which will leave him all the time he needs. Fingers crossed he has the ability to make a name for himself.

LOT 193
In-form Varian goes to €180K for Kodiac filly

Shortly after the start of the August Yearling Sale's third session, a daughter of Tally-Ho Stud's Kodiac offered by Haras du Mézeray fetched €180,000 on a bid from Roger Varian. The Newmarket-based trainer had already left Deauville on the back of his latest Group 1 triumph in the Gr.1 Prix Jean Romanet with AJMAN PRINCESS, and was acting over the phone via Arqana's Freddy Powell. The filly is the second foal out of a half-sister to Gr.1 Prix Maurice de Gheest scorer SIGNS OF BLESSING, himself a graduate of the August Yearling sale.

LOT 171
Invincible Spirit grandson of Surfside to Shadwell for €420K

The underbidder on the Dubawi colt out of Giofra, Angus Gold bounced back to secure a son of Invincible Spirit from the draft of Haras des Capucines for €420,000. The bay is a full brother to the Gr.3 Prix d'Arenberg scorer and Gr.1 Cheveley Park Stakes 3rd HIGH CELEBRITY. The second and third dam both acquired champion status in America, namely Champion three-year-old filly SURFSIDE and Champion two-year-old FLANDERS.

Sheikh Hamdan loved the horse since he saw him and was very keen to have him. We have been lucky with Invincible Spirit and hopefully if this one can run he could be a stallion.

LOT 160
Kerri Radcliffe forks out €1.55 million for star Dubawi colt

Lot 160 had been the talk of the sales grounds since the start of the week and the Haras de la Pérelle offering exceeded all expectations when knocked down for €1.55 million to Kerri Radcliffe after a protracted bidding duel against Shadwell's Angus Gold. The handsome bay was an extremely rare propositionin a sales ring as the second foal out of the Gr.1 Falmouth Stakes heroine GIOFRA, herself a half-sister to four black type winners. The family has been nurtured at Jürgen Winter's Haras de la Pérelle out of the Gr.3 Prestige Stakes scorer GRACEFULLY, who has turned into a foundation mare for the boutique farm.

A relieved Kerri Radcliffe sighed:

He is just a gorgeous individual, I wasn't leaving Deauville without him. He will go to André Fabre and we are hoping for the best.

LOT 136
Japan back to the fore with €400K Dubawi colt from Newsells

A colt by Dalham Hall Stud's flagship sire Dubawi and the first foal out of Gr.3 Prix Allez-France winer DAKSHA became the first Deauville purchase by Japanese up-and-coming owner Koichiro Yamaguchi on a closing bid of €400,000. The CEO of a successful hedge fund in Tokyo, Yamaguchi got a foretaste of racehorse ownership at a member of the U Carrot Farm syndicate that raced Gr.1 Yasuda Kinen and George Ryder Stakes hero REAL IMPACT, and was making his first trip to Deauville.

I wanted to buy either a Frankel, a Kingman or a Dubawi, said a thrilled Yamaguchi. I was underbidder on lot 66 yesterday and am delighted to be able to buy this one. It is my first purchase in Deauville.

LOT 126
Mayfair/Coolmore partnership support No Nay Never with €400K purchase

It was rather fitting than only hours after the Darley Prix Morny was run at Deauville racecourse, a colt from the first crop of 2013 scorer No Nay Never caused a stir in the sales ring located just across the road when selling for €400,000 to the irresistible partnership of Mayfair Speculators and Coolmore. Peter Doyle signed the docket for the son of Gr.3 Prix de Psyché victrix CHAIBIA who was offered by Camas Park & Glenvale Studs.

We always try to support a new stallion and were underbidder on the other No Nay Never yesterday [lot 4 who sold to Kerri Radcliffe Bloodstock for €480,000], commented Doyle. This colt is a two-year-type who looks racy. We haven't made our minds up about who will train him.

LOT 101
Wings Of Eagles' sister makes €750K to Redvers/Meridian partnership

The eagerly expected Kingman half-sister to this year's Derby hero WINGS OF EAGLES caused the sales pavillion to fill up to the boards in a matter of minutes, and bidding duly took off at a frantic pace. David Redvers and Ghislan Bozo, who were bidding from the restaurant in company with Laurent Dassault, offered a closing bid of €750,000 for the solid grey, whose dam Ysoldina was placed 5 times at Group level including in the Gr.1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches and has produced two more black type performers. She is herself a half-sister to the Gr.1 Prix Saint-Alary victrix BELLE ET CELEBRE and three other Stakes winners.

It is very hard to buy a sister to recent Derby winner so we knew she would be expensive and feel terribly lucky to have her. She is for a syndicate including Qatar Racing and two clients of Ghislain's. We will have a discussion regarding where she is to be trained.

Ghislain Bozo identified his clients as Laurent Dassault and a new Chinese investor for whom he has been active in the Deauville sales ring since the start of the season.

LOT 65
Mayfair lands another Galileo filly for €700,000

Mayfair Speculators' Derek Brugman, standing alongside agent Peter Doyle, signed for a second Galileo filly from Ecurie des Monceaux in lot 65, a half-sister to the Gr.3 perfomer Normandy Eagle, from the Wertheimer family of Plumania and Left Hand. The final bid was €700,000.

We just loved the pedigree, offered Brugman. For us she was one of the two best fillies in the sale, the other one being the daughter of Prudenzia we bought earlier tonight. She is a very good mover with great substance and obviously from an excellent family. In the longer term, you can't have enough Galileo fillies to breed from! She will stay in France and go to Nicolas Clément.

LOT 55
Dubawi filly to Kizuna's owner for €650K

One of only two fillies by the great Dubawi in the catalogue, the daughter of Ecurie des Monceaux's first Gr.1 winner Royal Highness sold to Koji Maeda for €650,000. Dr. Fukuda signed the docket for the half-sister to dual Gr.2 winner Free Port Lux and commented:

She is by one of the leading sires in Europe and the female family is excellent. She will go back to Japan to be trained. Mr. Maeda has been looking for very well-bred fillies to support his young sire Kizuna.

LOT 51
Mayfair secures 3rd Prudenzia offspring for €950K

Progeny of Listed winner PRUDENZIA have become a regular hot commodity since her first foal, a filly by Montjeu, sold for €600,000 and went on to win the Gr.1 Irish Oaks as CHICQUITA, and three of them are now owned by Markus Jooste's Mayfair Speculators in partnership with Coolmore. A year ago they paid €1.4 million for a Galileo filly who is now in training with Aidan O'Brien, and went to €950,000 for her full sister this time around.

Back into the family! exclaimed Derek Brugman after Peter Doyle signed the docket. We just love this female line, we have Craven's Legend who unfortunately was injured but is now back in training, and the two-year-old is a late-maturing filly that Aidan is very fond of. This one with stay in France to be trained by André Fabre.

LOT 25
Shamardal filly US-bound after selling for €450K to Solis/Litt tandem

A light grey daughter of Shamardal with plenty of American references in her pedigree, lot 25 was knocked down to Alex Solis and Justin Litt acting on behalf of Larry, Nancy and Jaime Roth's LNJ Foxwood.

The filly is a half-sister to MARBRE ROSE, a Listed scorer in France who went on to win at Grade 3 level in America, as well as to the exciting Frankel colt GIDU, a €410,000 purchase by Justin Casse at this auction last year and an eye-catching runner-up on his Saratoga debut last week, in the colours of Zayat Stables. Their dam Manerbe is a half-sister to the Grade I victric ZOFTIG.

She is a lovely filly from a solid American family that we love and we also love Shamardal, said Solis. We were actually underbidder on Gidu last year and I thought his debut was a nice update, I was very impressed by him. She will go to the US but we haven't decided on a trainer yet.

LOT 10
Half-brother to QEMAH commands €500K from Shadwell

Angus Gold was all smiles after signing at €500,000 for a colt from the first crop of the Aga Khan Studs' Charm Spirit, who is also a half-brother to the dual Group 1-winning miler QEMAH. The bay was bred and offered by Haras du Cadran, like his illustrious sister who sold for €200K back in 2014.

He is a very nice individual by an exciting young stallion, who was a very good, late maturing horse commented Gold. Obviously he is also a half-brother to a top class filly. I really like him and luckily Sheikh Hamdan [bin Rashid al Maktoum] liked him too!
