€750,000 for a daughter of Siyouni
Near the end of the session, Hubie De Burgh (De Burgh Equine), standing beside Craig Bernick, the Président and Director of Operations at Glen Hill Farm, went to €750,000 for a daughter of Siyouni from Écurie des Monceaux. The well-bred filly is out of a sister to the champion WALDGEIST and is from the family of the very talented performers WALDLIED, WALDKONIG, VAUBAN and NEW LONDON.

Daughter of Siyouni for Victorious Racing

Consigned by Haras d’Etreham, bidding for a daughter of Siyouni reached €625,000 when she was knocked down in favour of the agent Billy Jackson-Stops, bidding beside Carlos and Yann Lerner. The blue-blooded filly is a half-sister to Prix de Malleret (Gr.1) winner BABYLONE and hails from the excellent family of Group 1 winners DENEBOLA, SENGA, COU DE GENIE, EMOLLIENT, BAGO and MAXIOS.

Daughter of Night Of Thunder for AMO Racing
Among the lots consigned by Haras d’Etreham on the third and final day of the sale was a daughter of Night Of Thunder that was knocked down for €900,000 in favour of Alex Elliott on behalf of AMO Racing. The well-bred filly is a half-sister to this season’s Listed winner SAFIA and hails from the family of Group 1 winners SOPHISTICAT, SERENA’S SONG and HONOR CODE.
 
 
LOT 258
€700,000 for a son of Sea The Stars
Very active around the ring today, Anthony Stroud struck once again, this time for a son of Sea The Stars for €700,000 on behalf of Godolphin. Consigned by Haras de Saint Vincent, the colt is the first foal out of Listed winner SINGFORTHEMOMENT and hails from the family of Group winners BIG MOJO, FITYAAN, TRANS ISLAND, BARROW CREEK and REBELLION.
 
LOT 221
€1,2 million for a half-sister to AUDUBON PARK
Among the lots presented by Écurie des Monceaux was a half-sister to Listed winner AUDUBON PARK that was knocked down for €1,2 million in favour of Kieran Lalor on behalf of Al Shira’aa Racing. The well-bred yearling comes from the family of LEFT HAND, PLUMANIA and DOUBLE MAJOR etc.
 
She’s from a maternal line that we really like, said Kieran Lalor. She’s a filly with very good conformation and we’re delighted to get her. We’ve had a lot of success with horses bred by Écurie des Monceaux and we hope that this will continue with this filly. We’ll bring her home and give her a few months off before sending her into pre-training.

LOT 210
€850,000 for a son of Lope De Vega
A few minutes later, also for AMO Racing, Alex Elliott went to €850,000 for a son of Lope De Vega. Consigned by Haras du Cadran, the colt is out of Group placed QUEEN TREZE and hails from the family of Group 1 winners CALL THE WIND, FRIENDLY SOUL, WITH, WE ARE and KELINA.

He was one of our picks of the day among the yearlings on offer, said Alex Elliott. We were underbidders on another son of Lope De Vega, so we are particularly pleased. He is a horse with great stamina, showing both potential and speed. His dam, by Almanzor, was an excellent racehorse, so he really has a remarkable pedigree.

LOT 206
€3 million for a sister to MAGIC WAND and CHICQUITA
The sales auditorium was full for the turn of an eagerly awaited daughter of Night Of Thunder out of PRUDENZIA, consigned by Écurie des Monceaux. Following a protracted bidding war, the gavel final fell at €3 million in favour of Alex Elliott on behalf of AMO Racing. The blue-blooded filly is none other than a half-sister to Group 1 Classic winners CHICQUITA and MAGIC WAND and hails from the family of the very talented EMILY DICKINSON, PHILOMENE, PACIFIQUE and VESPERTILIO.

She is truly priceless! said Alex Elliott. To build a dynasty, you need to acquire horses like this. She is a splendid filly, and her dam has produced remarkably well. Her sister won the TDN Rising Star last week; it's a very lively family. We are more than happy.

LOT 205
€1,1 million for a half-sister to VESPERTILIO
The million euro mark was hit once again, this time for a daughter of Zarak, a half-sister to Group winner and Group 1 placed VESPERTILIO, consigned by Écurie des Monceaux. One Agency signed the docket for the filly out of a sister to PRUDENZIA from the family of the excellent racemares MAGIC WAND et CHICQUITA.

LOT 191
€1,2 million for a son of Camelot
Consigned by Haras de la Perelle, a son of Camelot was knocked down for €1,2 million to M. V. Magnier, that bought the colt in partnership with White Birch Farm. The well-bred colt is out of a half-sister to Group winners PENSEE DU JOUR and CANVASSED, and hails from the excellent family of PEINTRE CELEBRE.

 

LOT 181
€2 million for a daughter of Dubawi out of Paix
Eagerly awaited in the ring, a daughter of Dubawi out of Group winner PAIX was subject to a lot of interest from buyers. Following a protracted bidding war, it was Anthony Stroud for Godolphin that had the final say at €2 million for the filly out of the excellent family of MAGIC WAND, CHICQUITA and PHILOMENE, consigned by Écurie des Monceaux.
 
Dubawi was an extraordinary stallion for us, said Anthony Stroud. It's rare to see fillies of this quality go under the hammer, and we had to seize the opportunity. We’re very lucky to have been able to get her.

LOT 178
Son of Frankel for Godolphin
A few minutes later, bids flew accross the ring for an eagerly awaited son of Frankel out of Listed scorer ORENDINA, consigned by Haras de Montaigu. With a final bid of €2,25 million, the agent Anthony Stroud signed the docket in favour of Godolphin for the colt from the very close family of Epsom Derby (Gr.1) winner WINGS OF EAGLE and Group scorers BABY RIDER, STRAW HAT, APPEL AU MAITRE and VALENTINO.
 
Some very nice horses are going through the ring today, and this colt is one of them, said Anthony Stroud. He’s a superb yearling that walks very well with good conformation. He’s by Frankel out of a dam by Siyouni, which is a top class cross. He was one of our favourites today and he’s a horse that we can dream of Derbys with.

Son of Too Darn Hot for Godolphin
Bidding on behalf of Godolphin, the agent Anthony Stroud struck for a son of Darley stallion Too Darn Hot for €400,000. Consigned by Haras d’Etreham, the colt is out of a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner PAKISTAN STAR and hails from the family of Preis der Diana (Gr.1) heroine NEXT GINA and Deutsches Derby (Gr.1) scorer NEXT DESERT.

€430,000 for a half-sister to SPEAK OF THE DEVIL and MORANDO
Among the first yearlings to go under the hammer on the third and final day of the August Yearling Sale was a daughter of Wootton Bassett that was knocked down for €430,000 in favour of Michel Zerolo (Oceanic Bloodstock). Consigned by Haras des Capucines, the filly is a half-sister to none other than Group winners SPEAK OF THE DEVIL and MORANDO.

€500,000 for a son of Classic winner MANGOUSTINE
Nearer the end of the session, a son of Frankel out of Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (Gr.1) winner MANGOUSTINE was knocked down for €500,000. It was the Japanese trainer Yoshito Yahagi that signed the docket for the colt from the family of the excellent FLOTILLA, the winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf and Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (Gr.1).

 

LOT 140
€1,25 million for a son of Siyouni

Consigned by Tweenhills, a colt by Siyouni out of Cheveley Park Stakes (Gr.1) heroine LIGHTNING PEARL was sold for €1,25 million in favour of American Racing Corp. The well-bred colt is a half-brother to Group scorer  LIGHTNING QUICK and the black-type performer MATENRO DIVA. He comes from the family of Group 1 winner  SATONO CROWN.

LOT 103
€900,000 for a son of Wootton Bassett
After signing the docket at €400,000 for a daughter of Wootton Bassett, Anthony Stroud then struck for a son of the Coolmore stallion, once again on behalf of Godolphin. Consigned by Haras d’Etreham, the colt hails from the family of a half-sister to Group winner LILY’S ANGEL. The well-bred colt hails from the family of CALL THE WIND, FRIENDLY SOUL, WITH YOU, WE ARE, KELINA, DOMINANT and ARISTIA.

LOT 104
€2,3 million for a son of Wootton Bassett
The ring was buzzing for the arrival of an eagerly awaited son of Wootton Bassett out of Group winner HIGH CELEBRITY consigned by Haras des Capucines. Following a long bidding war, it was M. V. Magnier that had the final say at €2,3 million for the half-brother to the black-type performers FRIENDLY FACE and HIGHBURY, from the family of multiple Group 1 scorers SURFSIDE and FLANDERS, bought for a partnership between Coolmore and White Birch Farm.
He’s a very good looking colt. Wootton Bassett is a sire that has been very successful. We have his brother at Ballydoyle, and he appears to be a very nice horse. We all liked him very much and are delighted.

LOT 102
€420,000 for a daughter of Sea The Stars
A little later, Hubie De Burgh (De Burgh Equine), standing beside Craig Bernick, Président and Director of Operations at Glen Hill Farm, went to €420,000 for a daughter of Sea The Stars. Consigned by Écurie des Monceaux, the filly is out of a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner EMILY UPJOHN from the family of Group 1 scorers HARZAND, SEAL OF APPROVAL and HURRICANE LANE as well as Group scorers HARASIYA, AMAZING ONE PLUS, HAZARISTA and HAMAIRI etc.

Firstly, she’s a magnificent filly, said Craig Bernick. She has an excellent attitude and walks very well. At the moment we have only one filly by Sea The Stars at stud at Glenn Hill, and he is probably one of the best broodmare sires in the world, so she will come back to the stud at the end of her racing career. She’s from a very well-known Aga Khan line in France and when there’s a nice individual in the family, it’s an opportunity not to be missed. We’re very happy to get her, and she’ll be trained in France by Francis-Henri Graffard.

LOT 83
Daughter of Wootton Bassett for Godolphin
Following an exceptional day’s racing at Deauville-La Touques Racecourse, the second session of the August Yearling Sale began late afternoon. Among the first lots to go under the hammer was a daughter of  Wootton Bassett that was knocked down for €400,000 in favour of Anthony Stroud, bidding on behalf of Godolphin. Consigned by Haras du Cadran, the filly is the first foal out of the black-type mare FLIGHTY LADY and hails from the family of Group 1 winners GOLD PHOENIX, AL BAHATHRI and HAAFHD, as well as Group scorers AVIATE and EARLY MARCH.
She has a lot going for her, said the agent. She’s a daughter of Wootton Bassett, well bred, and from a good stud. She’ll run in Godolphin’s colours and will be trained by Charlie Appleby.

LOT 78
€675,000 for a daughter of Sea The Stars

Among the last lots to go under the hammer was a daughter of Sea The Stars that was knocked down for €675,000 to Paddy Twomey. Consigned by Écurie des Monceaux, the filly is a daughter of non other than EVEREST ROSE a Listed winner and a sister to Group scorer ARABIAN CROWN. The blue-blooded filly hails from the family of Group 1 winner SEA LA ROSE and Group winners MOSAIQUE, THE JULIET ROSE and DEAUVILLE LEGEND.

After signing the docket, Paddy Twomey said: 

I’ve bought her for a new partnership, for whom I looking for fillies with good pedigrees, and this one has a Classic one!

LOT 72
Son of Lope De Vega for Godolphin

Consigned by Écurie des Monceaux, a son of Lope de Vega out of the black-type ELIADE was knocked down for  €800,000. Bidding on behalf of Godolphin, Anthony Stroud signed the docket for the colt that hails from the leading family of Group 1 winners FRIENDLY SOUL, WITH YOU, WE ARE, KELINA and CALL THE WIND. He commented:

I’ve bought him for Godolphin and he will be trained by Charlie Appleby. He’s a lovely colt that walks very well. He comes from Écurie des Monceaux, that has bred so many good horses. We are truly delighted.

LOT 68
Daughter of Baaeed for Al Shira’aa Racing

Later in the day, a daughter of the champion Baaeed, that has his first crop yearlings going under the hammer this year, was subject to interest from a number of buyers around the ring. The gavel finally fell at €800,000 for the filly in favour of Kieran Lalor on behalf of Al Shira’aa Racing. Consigned by Écurie des Monceaux, she is out of Listed winner DUBAI ROSE, that has produced Group winners THE JULIET ROSE and ARABIAN CROWN as well as the black-type performers EVEREST ROSE and POCKETFULLOFDREAMS. The well-bred filly hails from the family of Prix de Royallieu (Gr.1) winner SEA LA ROSA, and Group winners DEAUVILLE LEGEND and HANAMI.

We really liked this filly, said Kieran Lalor. She’s gorgeous, very athletic with a superb pedigree and from one of the best French studs. We’ve had a lot of success with Écurie des Monceaux over the years, and fingers crossed we’ll be back in a few years to speak about the Guineas and the Classics for this filly. With Baaeed as her sire and a maternal line of this calibre, anything is possible.

LOT 13
Half-Brother to Royal Ascot Group winner RASHABAR makes €520,000

Kicking off the yearling sales season in Europe, the ARQANA August Sale began on Saturday 16 August. Among the first lots to go under the hammer was a half-brother to last year’s Royal Ascot Group winner RASHABAR, also runner up in the Prix Guillaume d'Ornano (Gr.2) this afternoon at Deauville Racecourse. He was knocked down for €520,000 in favour of M. V. Magnier. Consigned by Haras de Beaufay, the son of St Mark’s Basilica hails from the family of AMARETTE, the winner of the Preis der Diana (Gr.1) and Group winners RIVER OF STARS, AMAZONA, ANCIENT SPIRIT and AEMILIANUS etc.
