Son of Siyouni goes for €525,000 to Al Shaqab Racing

Ecurie des Monceaux’s maternal family of PLATONIC once again rose to the fore with a son of the young mare PRUDENTE going for €525,000. The latter is none other than a sister to PRUDENZIA, the dam of the excellent MAGIC WAND and CHICQUITA.

Nicolas de Watrigant (Mandore Agency) and Paul Hensey (Al Shaqab Racing) had the final say for the colt, with the latter commenting:

He’s a magnificent colt. The whole team loved him from the moment we saw him. As well as his conformation, he has one of the best pedigrees in the catalogue. We don’t know where he’ll go into training - we’ll decide at a later stage.

LOT 137
Son of Siyouni for David Menuisier

Consigned by Ecurie des Monceaux, a son of Siyouni out of Group winner PACIFIQUE went for €210,000, with the colt set to cross the channel to join the boxes of David Menuisier. He is from the close family of the top class PRUDENZIA, MAGIC WAND and CHICQUITA.

I’ve bought him for a client based in the Southern Hemisphere, said the trainer by telephone. He’s a lovely horse from a very good family. I love middle-distance horses and with a bit of luck, he could be a colt for the Melbourne Cup in a few years. This is what my Australian and New Zealand clients are interested in, and if he has a bit of speed and stamina, he should do well.

LOT 110bis
€450,000 for a half-sister to AUNT PEARL

Potential buyers were keen to see a half-sister to impressive Churchill Downs debut winner and subsequent Jessamine Stakes (Gr.2) scorer winner AUNT PEARL go through the ring, with the filly eventually being knocked down for €450,000. Offered from Haras d’Etreham, it was Hiroo Shimizu, bidding beside Daniel Cole in the restaurant, that had the final say for the daughter of Sea The Stars, that had a timely update thanks to Aunt Pearl’s stakes win after the catalogue had been printed.  She hails from the family of MONSUN and dual Group winner WEKEELA.

The young Chantilly based trained was bidding on behalf of Japanese owner Shigeo Nomura, for whom he had already bought a colt by Siyouni out of SAFARI QUEEN a few months earlier at the Select Sale.

She’s an exceptional filly, said Hiroo Shimizu. I’ve bought her for the same connections as Midlife Crisis. She’s compact, and has the physique to run at two. We’ll give her some time. She reminds me of Deep Impact in her attitude and in the way she moves, she almost floats.

LOT 20
€130,000 for a half-brother to WALTHAM

The October Yearling Sale got underway this morning with Part 1 of the catalogue. One of the first lots through the ring was a half-brother by The Grey Gatsby to Prix Maurice Caillault (L.) victor WALTHAM, that was knocked down for €130,000.

It was Anastasia Wattel that signed the docket for the descendant of ALWAYS LOYAL and ANABAA, from Haras d’Etreham.

We really loved this colt, commented the young Deauville trainer. I’ve bought him for a group of owners that are well known in the trotting sphere, Jean-Pierre Michelot, Pierre Pilarski and Thomas Bernereau. His dam has already produced some good runners. This partnership already has Evander with me, and he makes his debut on Thursday at Deauville. We hope to continue to make history with this one!
