MOMBASA and ZERTAKT for Guy Petit

A familiar face at the sales, the agent Guy Petit bought 14 lots during the day, led by MOMBASA (lot 500). Added to the catalogue as a Wild card following his win in the  Prix Stanley (L.), the unbeaten gelding trained by François Nicolle was knocked down for €250,000. The well bred three-year-old son of Martaline is from the close family of MOISES HAS, MOCALACATO HAS and MOMITA HAS.

I've bought him for David Maxwell, said Guy Petit. His progression from his win a La Teste and at Auteuil was impressive, which is a good sign for the rest of his career.

A few lots later, he struck for another Wild Card, this time it was ZERTAKT (lot 502). Offered from Hector de Lageneste and Guillaume Macaire, the son of Walzertakt that won his latest start over hurdles at Auteuil, was sold for €195,000. He’ll now join the stables of Venetia Williams.

LOT 473
Wild Card ABSURDE joins the boxes of Willie Mullins

Very active during the day, the trio of Pierre Boulard (PB Bloodstock), Willie Mullins and Harold Kirk struck this time for the Wild Card ABSURDE offered from Wertheimer & Frère. Placed in nine of his 11 starts including twice at Listed level last season, the Carlos Laffon-Parias gelding made €260,000. The son of Fastnet Rock, a half-brother to Group placed IMPERTINENTE is from the family of JUVENIA and IN EXTREMIS.

We’ve bought him for clients of Willie Mullins's that like dual-purpose horses that can go over jumps or over long distances on the flat, explained Pierre Boulard. Absurde has the right profile to run well over longer distances.

LOT 472
MR DREAMER makes €130,000

After opening his account at Saint-Cloud over 1400 metres just a few days before the sale, the Igor Endaltsev trained MR DREAMER was knocked down for €130,000. Bidding on the telephone, Anne-Sophie You (YOHEA) had the final say for the son of Mr Owen, from the family of the talented performers MA PREFERENCE, RESTLESS KARA and RESTIVER.

LOT 444
Wild Card AFADIL makes €255,000

Buyers were once again present for the Aga Khan Studs' AFADIL, a runner-up on his debut and most recently a winner over 2,200 metres for Francis-Henri Graffard. Tom Malone signed the docket for the son of Camelot, from the family of Group winners ASHKALANI, GENGIS and SHAFARAZ.

He’’ll have a break this summer before joining Paul Nicholls, said the agent. He’s a lovely horse, and has everything to be a jumper and he is by Camelot, a sire that we have been lucky with.

LOT 443
DADDY LONG LEGS knocked down for €210,000

A few lots later, the gavel fell at €210,000 for the Wild Card DADDY LONG LEGS,a runner-up on his debut over 2400m for Nicolas Clément. Pierre Boulard (PB Bloodstock Service) in company with Willie Mullins and Harold Kirk had the final say for the son of Almanzor, out of the Prix des Sablonnets (L.) winner PRIVATE EYES. 

Hell join Willie Mullins, said the agent. He’s a lovely horse and we are very happy.

LOT 421
€1,2 million for Classic winner TXOPE

The ring was buzzing when it came to the very talented TXOPE to go through the ring, the winner of the German 1,000 Guineas (Gr.2) this season in the colours of Ecurie Griezmann for trainer Philippe Decouz. Runner-up in the Prix Miesque (Gr.3) behind the excellent MANGOUSTINE last year and also twice Listed placed this season, the daughter of Siyouni was knocked down for €1,2 million. Bidding on behalf of Yuesheng Zhang (Yulong Investiment), Michael Donohoe (BBA Ireland) had the final say for the filly out of the Listed winner POWER OF THE MOON from the family of dual Group winner ZINZIBERINE.

We cant wait to see her run - it is possible that we might send her over for the Del Mar Oaks in California in August but nothing is decided yet, we cant wait to discuss options. Shes a filly that is worth her weight in gold on the racecourse and for breeding, and she will be the perfect addition to the broodmare band in Australia.”

€110.000 for the Wild Card AREEN

Having bought KASPAR at the Arc Sale last year that has since finished runner-up in the Neom Turf Cup (Gr.3) in Riyadh this season, Youssef Mohammed Alturaif travelled this time to Deauville. The Saudi owner bought the wild card AREEN for €110,000. Very consistent, the Pia & Joakim Brandt trained four-year-old is a half-brother to stakes winner ROYAL BY NATURE.

HAVANA ANGEL goes Stateside

Third in the Prix du Bois (Gr.3), the Wild Card HAVANA ANGEL was subject to a lot of interest from buyers. Bidding in the restaurant beside American trainer Leonard Powell, Emmanuel de Seroux (Narvick International) had the final say at €320,000 for the filly offered by Amy Murphy. The agent commented, 

Shell come back to California. Ive bought her for Marsha Naify. I saw her at Chantilly and was impressed by her race. She also ran very well at Dieppe just beforehand. We think she has a lot of talent. The choice of trainer is up to her owner but there is a big chance that it will be Leonard Powell.

€117,000 for a daughter of Dubawi

Haras de Saint Arnoult offered 13 horses-in-training as part of a dispersal from the late Larissa Kneip, including AL KHAMSA. The eagerly awaited daughter of Dubawi out of E. P. Taylor Stakes (Gr.1) heroine BLOND ME, was knocked down for €117,000 in favour of Guy Petit. The well bred filly is from the family of Group winners GLASS HARMONIUM and CONDUIT. 

Shes a lovely filly, said Jacques Beres of Haras de la Croix Sonnet. She was the only filly by Dubawi in the catalogue and she is very well bred. We dont know yet who will train her.

Half-sister to MAGPIES BRIDGE and TANAZA sold for €105,000

Bidding went up to €105,000 for TASHOURA, a well-bred half-sister to Group winners MAGPIES BRIDGE and TANAZA, offered from the Aga Khan Studs. The agent Jason Kelly had the final say for the daughter of Fastnet Rock out of Listed winner TANOURA, from the family of Group winners TAKAROUNA, TAKARIAN, and GHAYYAAD. 

She’s a magnificent filly, said the agent. I’ve bought her for new clients that are starting to breed in the north of England - she’s a very good filly to start with.

€135,000 for a daughter of Frankel

Just afterwards, the gavel fell at €135,000 for LYRA STAR, a daughter of Frankel out of Group placed LIGHT THE STARS from the close family of LOPE DE VEGA, LADY VETTORY and LADY FRANKEL. Marc Antoine Berghgracht (MAB Agency), standing in company with José Delmotte had the final say for the mare from La Motteraye Consignment carrying for the first time to Victor Ludorum. 

The mare has a great pedigree page, said the agent. She’s a daughter of Frankel, comes from a great family and in foal to a promising stallion in Victor Ludorum.

Daughter of Exceed And Excel sold for €150,000

Bringing together the breeding and horses-in-training section, the second day of the Summer Sale started with a bang with KESARIYA, a daughter of Exceed And Excel out of Listed winner KERASONA. Bidding on behalf of Sam Fairgray (Yulong Investment), Michael Donohoe (BBA Ireland) went to €150,000 for the well-bred filly from the Aga Khan Studs. 

Well decide on her future in the next few weeks, said Sam Fairgray. She could stay up here for the Northern Hemisphere or go to Australia."

LOT 214
€150,000 for a son of Authorized

Among the last lots through the ring today was a son of Authorized from Fairway Consignment. The trio of Dai Walters, David Minton and Sam Thomas had the final say for the gelding out of a sister to Group 2 winner BAIE DES ILES.

I’ve bought her on the advice of Sam Thomas who trains for us, said Dai Walters. We already have one by Authorized and he is a good horse. We hope that this one will be just as good!

LOT 145
Son of Doctor Dino for NBB Racing

Very active in the ring today, Nicolas Bertran de Balanda (NBB Racing) once again struck for a son of Doctor Dino. Offered from The Channel Consignment on behalf of Haras du Mesnil, the colt is out of a sister to Prix de La Haye Jousselin (Gr.1) winner SHANNON ROCK from the family of multiple Grade 1 winner ALLAHO. 

After signing the docket, Nicolas Bertran de Balanda commented:

Hes a lovely horse. He isnt very big but he has the physique of a racehorse. He comes from a lovely family and his half-sister debuted well at Clairefontaine. He’ll be trained by Francois Nicolle.

Another son of Doctor Dino sold for €110,000 to Alan Harte

Buyers’ appetite for Doctor Dino’s progeny was still strong with another of his sons making six figures once more on the board. Offered from The Channel Consignment, the well-bred gelding is from the family of the talented ODEILLO DU MATHAN, TAMAROC DU MATHAN and AMOUR DU MATHAN. The son of the Haras du Mesnil sire was knocked down for €110,000 to the Irishman Alan Harte, who said:

 
Hes a very good looking horse and we really like his sire, Doctor Dino. Hell come back home with us to Ireland.

A few lots later, it was the turn of DOCTOR CHAMPDOUX, another son of Doctor Dino, this time out of multiple Group winner MISS DE CHAMPDOUX, to make six figures. Bidding on behalf of  Bridge Consignment, Marius Cyprès signed the docket at €210,000 for the gelding offered from Jean-Marie Callier.

He’s a lovely horse, he commented. He is very good walker and comes from a great family. I know him well - I saw him grow up, so I am very happy. We”ve bought him for a partnership with a new French owner and he’ll stay in training in France.

MAGNUM OPUS sold for €160,OOO to Nicolas Bertran de Balanda

Offered from The Channel Consignment for Haras du Mesnil, Doctor Dino’s son MAGNUM OPUS was knocked down for €160,000. It was Nicolas Bertran de Balanda (NBB Racing) that signed for the well-bred gelding, the first foal out of Group winners HAPPY MONARCH and LORD DU MESNIL. 

Hes a lovely colt, said the agent. He ticks a lot of boxes, is a good size, by Doctor Dino, and comes from a great family. He has all the characteristics to make a good chaser. He’ll join François Nicolle.

Son of Exceed And Excel sells for €110,000

Still in the two-year-old flat section, a son of Exceed And Excel was knocked down for €110,000. Marco Bozzi had the final say for the colt from the family of Group winners LOVE OF SILVER, KUAICOSS and AIKENOTE, offered from Knockanglass Stables.

After signing the docket, the agent said:

We know this horse as we had already seen him and were excited to see him come through. Hes a lovely colt, that has matured nicely since we last saw him. His future trainer likes him a lot.

€220,000 for a son of Medaglia D’Oro

Bringing together the first part of the catalogue, the Summer Sale began this morning with the two-year-old flat section that breezed yesterday at Deauville-La Touques Racecourse. Offered from MC Thoroughbred, a son of Medaglia d’Oro out of the Listed placed SO STYLISH was knocked down for €220,000. Marco Bozzi, bidding beside trainer Alessandro Botti, had the final say for the colt from the close family of Group 1 winner ONE COOL CAT. 

He’s a lovely horse by Medaglia d’ora, a stallion that has had a lot of success in Saudi Arabia, said the agent. We have followed this colt for a while, and we went to see him in Ireland where we really liked him. We’re very pleased with this purchase for Prince Saud bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.”
