€290,000 for a daughter Siyouni

Trainer Yann Barberot, still in the company of Gitte and Philippe Allaire, came up against Michel Zerolo for a daughter of Siyouni from Ecurie des Monceaux. After a long battle, it was the Deauville handler that came out on top at €290,000 for the filly from the family of Group 1 winners HALFWAY TO HEAVEN, MAGICAL, and RHODODENDRON.

I’ve bought her for Olivier Thomas (Normandie Spirit). She’s a lovely filly that’s a real Siyouni," said Yann Barberot. "She walks well and is from a very current family. We saw her at the stud with Olivier Thomas, Gitte and Philippe Allaire and we liked her a lot. We didn’t think she would be so expensive but she was our favourite.

Kodiac filly for Jean-Claude Seroul

Acting on behalf of Jean-Claude Seroul, Nicolas de Watrigant (Mandore International Agency) and Alain Decrion had the final say for a daughter of Kodiac at €135,000. Consigned by Haras de Castillon, the filly will now go to the South of France.

She cost a lot more than we wanted to pay, but she is a very nice filly and we always have money for horses like her," said Alain Decrion. "We’ve bought her for Monsieur Seroul. She’ll go into training in Marseille with Jerome Reynier.

LOT 437
€180,000 for a son of Wootton Bassett

Demand for yearlings by Wootton Bassett continued in the same strong vein with a son of the new Coolmore sire making €180,000 to Nicolas de Watrigant on behalf of Al Shaqab Racing.

The colt is from the close family of Group 1 winner CURSORY GLANCE.

We had to fight for him, said the agent. He’s a lovely colt by Wootton Bassett out of a mare by War Front. I have been lucky in the past with horses by this stallion, notably WOODED, that won the Prix Texanita this season for Francis-Henri Graffard. We don’t know who will train him yet, his owner will decide later.

Daughter of Almanzor sold for €105,000

A granddaughter of Irish 1,000 Guineas heroine YESTERDAY and a close relative of highest level winners QUARTER MOON and DIAMONDSANDRUBIES, a daughter of Almanzor from Haras de la Louviere made €105,000 to Michel Zerolo (Oceanic Bloodstock).

She’s a lovely filly from a great maternal line. We hope that she will be as good on the racetrack. I’ve bought her for Bernard Giraudon and she will be trained by Fabrice Vermeulen.

Jean-Claude Rouget continues his spree

Very active throughout the three days, Jean-Claude Rouget went to €100,000 to secure a half-brother to black-type performers HURRICANE and FRANCESCO BERE from Haras de la Haie Neuve. The colt is from the first crop of Whitecliffsofdover, that has a covering fee of just €3,000.

A few lots later, he also bought lots 432 and 433. The first, a daughter of Le Havre from the close family of STRADIVARIUS was knocked down to the Pau trainer for €105,000 from Jedburgh Stud. The second, a daughter of the Aga Khan Studs’ first crop stallion Zarak, was sold for €100,000. She hails from the family of Group 1 winner ECTOT and MOST IMPROVED.

Son of Wootton Bassett for Coolmore

Following on from their recent purchase of WOOTTON BASSETT, Coolmore secured one of his sons from Haras d’Etreham, that previously stood him, for €140,000. It was Laurent Benoit that signed the docket. He explained,

As a result of Wootton Bassett’s departure for Coolmore, we were looking to buy one of his sons for M.V. Magnier, and this one was our favourite. He’ll go to Andre Fabre, who will be delighted to have the Zafonic line once again - it’ll jog some fond memories!

Daughter of Churchill for Gitte Allaire

At the helm of Haras de Bouttemont in the trotting sphere where the phenomenal stallion READY CASH stands, Gitte Allaire was standing in company with Deauville trainer Yann Barberot when he signed for a daughter of Churchill for €100,000. The filly is a close relative of Gr.1 Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner DANEDREAM. 

 She’s a very good looking filly with a lovely pedigree," said Barberot. "The first foal out of the mare was a winner at two and she is from a great family, so she has great residual value. I’ve bought her with Gitte Allaire. We already had Bouttemont, that ran well, so hopefully we can continue on the same path with her!

Siyouni filly makes €100,000

Mandore International Agency’s Nicolas de Watrigant, acting on behalf of Al Shaqab Racing, went to €100,000 to secure a daughter of Siyouni from Ecurie des Monceaux. The filly hails from the close family of Classic winner FLOTILLA.

 She’s an active filly that looks precocious and is from a great family," said the agent. "We saw her at Monceaux a few weeks ago and liked her a lot.

LOT 312
€140,000 for a half-brother to ALOUNAK

A few lots later, Haras de Castillon offered a half-brother to Group 3 winner ALOUNAK. The gavel fell at €140,000 in favor of Michael Donohoe (BBA Ireland) for the son of Kodiac from the close family of Group 1 winner EMULOUS.

 He’s a lovely colt that looks precocious," said the agent. "He’s by a good sire from a great family - he’s got everything to like about him! I’ve bought him for one of my clients that has horses in Europe, principally in Ireland and in France. He’ll be broken in Ireland, and then we’ll see where he goes into training.

Daughter of Wootton Bassett sold for €100,000 to Jean-Michel Lefebvre

The third day of the Select Sale sees Part 2 of the catalogue go through the ring, with an early headline coming for a daughter of Wootton Bassett knocked down to trainer Jean-Michel Lefebvre for €100,000. Out of the Listed winning mare ALTA STIMA consigned by The Channel Consignment, the handler bought her on behalf of Ecurie Melanie. 

 She’s a lovely filly, and we really fell in love with her. She looks precocious and could make a nice two-year-old. We wanted a daughter of Wootton Bassett, and we’ve got one! She isn’t very big, which is a good thing. We’ll let her have a little holiday for a few weeks and then she’ll come in and be broken with us. She’ll carry Ecurie Melanie’s colours.

€520,000 for TREVE’s sister

A sister to Classic winning dual Gr.1 Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner TREVE was one of the standout lots in the catalogue that concluded Part 1 and the second day of the Select Sale. The homebred, offered from Haras du Quesnay, made €520,000 to Gerard Larrieu (Chantilly Bloodstock Agency). 

 Her sister gave us all some wonderful moments, and their is no reason why that shouldn’t be repeated with this filly," said Larrieu. "I’ve bought her for Shael Al Kuwari and she will now join the boxes of Fabrice Chappet.

LOT 251
€2,5 million for a half-sister to SISTERCHARLIE and SOTTSASS

Just a lot later, bidding once again hit the €2 million barrier, with Anthony Stroud making his presence felt once again, this time for a half-sister to SISTERCHARLIE and SOTTSASS by Dubawi.

After a long battle between Stroud for Godolphin, David Redvers and Oliver St. Lawrence, it was however the latter that had the final say at €2,5 million on behalf of Fawzi Nass.

Offered from Ecurie des Monceaux, the filly is out of placed Galileo mare STARLET’S SISTER, that has produced Classic winner SOTTSASS and seven time US Grade 1 winner and Prix de Diane runner-up SISTERCHARLIE from her first three foals, which also include dual G3 winner on both sides of the Atlantic, My Sister Nat.   

 

She’s a lovely filly with an exceptional pedigree," said Nass, who trains in Bahrein and was standing in company with St. Lawrence. "I’ve bought her for Nasser Al Khalifa, in partnership with KHK Racing. She’ll come back to England, but we haven’t got a trainer for her yet, but we’ll decide soon! These types of fillies are very rare and difficult to get because there is an enormous amount of interest in them. We never doubted that we could get her! We’re delighted to have succeeded.

LOT 250
€1 million barrier hit again, this time for son of Kingman

Bidding in the ring once again hit seven figures, this time for a son of Kingman that was eventually knocked down to Anthony Stroud for €1,1 million on behalf of Godolphin. Offered from Haras des Capucines, the colt is from a top German family that also includes Prix de Diane winner and six-time winner at the highest level STACELITA and her daughter SOUL STIRRING, a Champion at Two and Three in Japan.

LOT 228
€320,000 for a son of American Pharoah

The only son of American Pharoah in the catalogue was knocked down for €320,000 to Oliver St. Lawrence from Haras d’Etreham. A first foal out of Listed placed SEA OF SNOW, he was another purchased by the agent for Bahrein trainer Fawzi Nass following on from earlier.

Nass said of the relative of Group 1 winner LAMMTARRA,

He’s a lovely son of American Pharoah with a very good pedigree. We hope that he will be just as good as him! He’ll go to England, but we haven’t decided who he will be trained by. We have also bought two yearlings by Almanzor today.

€2 Million for brother to globetrotter MAGIC WAND

Top price at the August Yearling Sale in 2016, MAGIC WAND has gone on to have an exceptional career for Coolmore, with 10 places at Group 1 level across the globe.  The entrance of her brother into the ring, another Ecurie des Monceaux and Skymarc Farm homebred by Galileo out of PRUDENZIA, did not disappoint.

Following a long battle between David Redvers and M.V. Magnier (Coolmore), it was the latter that had the final say at €2 million for the colt, also a three-parts brother to Classic winner Chicquita.

He’s a lovely colt that walks very well, said M.V. Magnier. He’s from a fantastic family that we have already had a lot of luck with. Chicquita and Magic Wand have given us a lot of joy on the racetrack, and we hope that he will follow in their footsteps.

€700,000 for a half-sister to POLYDREAM

Bidding reached €700,000 for a half-sister to Gr.1 Prix Maurice de Gheest winner POLYDREAM from Ecurie des Monceaux. The daughter of Siyouni out of Group placed POLYGREEN was knocked down to master trainer Jean-Claude Rouget on behalf of Gainesway Farm.

LOT 174
Daughter of Siyouni makes €400,000 to Margaret O’Toole

Buyers were once again present for a half-sister to Gr.1 Prix Jean Prat winner INTELLOGENT from Ecurie des Monceaux. The daughter of Siyouni from the excellent German family of Group 1 winners NIGHTFLOWER, NYMPHEA and NUTAN was knocked down for €400,000 to Margaret O’Toole.

LOT 157
€630,000 for a half-sister to WIND CHIMES

Following on the first half of Part 1 of the catalogue on Wednesday, the second day of the select sale started with a bang with a half-sister to Group 3 winner Wind Chimes going under the hammer. Freddy Head, Laurent Benoit and Sebastien Desmontils (Chauvigny Global Equine) all tried their best to secure the filly, with the latter prevailing at €630,000. The daughter of Frankel out of Listed placed mare Militante was offered from Ecurie des Monceaux.

The agent said,

I’ve bought her for Hisaaki Saito, who already has four horses-in-training in France, two with Fabrice Chappet, and two with Henri-François Devin. We don’t know yet where she’ll go into training. She’s a lovely filly that has all the attributes to win a Classic. We were in competition with one of the best breeders in the world, Juddmonte, so we are really happy to have got her. We have a lot to dream about with her!”

A winner of her last start at Deauville on her second start, the promising EARLY LIGHT is just one that already runs in Saito’s colours. She was bought by the same team at the October Yearling Sale last year.

Daughter of Invincible Spirit for AMO Racing

 Just before the end of the sale, Robson Aguiar, acting on behalf of AMO Racing, bought a filly by Invincible Spirit for €350,000. Offered from Haras du Mezeray, the filly is a close relative of Group 1 winner SIGNS OF BLESSING.

I really liked this filly, said Aguiar. I’ve bought her for AMO Racing, who dream of winning at Royal Ascot. I think she has all the potential to do that. She’ll go to Ireland and we’ll decide later where she goes into training.

Daughter of Dark Angel goes to Charlie Gordon-Watson for €340,000

For the first time, Gestut Ammerland are offering yearlings at the sale under their own name, including a daughter of Dark Angel out of black-type mare LIGHT THE STARS. The blue-blooded yearling hails from the excellent maternal family of LADY VETTORI, the dam of top stallion LOPE DE VEGA, Group 1 winner DANCETERIA, and the very talented LADY FRANKEL.

Charlie Gordon-Watson said after signing the docket, 

I’ve bought her for Ahmed Abu Kadra. This is his first horse. He’s passionate about Polo and a fan of Andre Fabre’s, like me, so we have lots of things in common! I really like the way this filly moves and she’s from a great stud. We’re delighted to have got her and can’t wait to see her run

€450,000 for GOLDEN VALENTINE’s first foal

Ecurie des Monceaux offered the first foal out of Gr.3 Prix Minerve winner GOLDEN VALENTINE. Acting on behalf of Qatar Racing, David Redvers had the final say at €450,000 for the son of Galileo from the family of the excellent GOLDIKOVA.

I’ve bought him for a new partnership, said the agent. He’s from one of the best French studs. I saw him at Monceaux six weeks ago and he was my favourite. I’m delighted - he’s a colt with lots of quality and is very well bred.“

Galileo filly makes €380,000

For the fourth year running, Haras de la Perelle offered a yearling out of the excellent Gr.1 Falmouth Stakes heroine GIOFRA. This particular yearling, a filly by Galileo, went the way of Philippe Jousset (France Turf International) for €380,000. 

The filly has a very good pedigree, and her half-brother is in training with Andre Fabre. It’s a good maternal line and she is by a stallion that is already established. She’ll go into training in France.

LOT 95
Siyouni colt for MIDLIFE CRISIS’s entourage

Bidding from the restaurant, Hiroo Shimizu and Daniel Cole had the final say on a son of Siyouni from Ecurie des Monceaux for €340,000. This well bred colt is a grandson of dual Group 1 winning mare SAFARI QUEEN. He is now set to carry the colours of Shigeo Nomura.

Deauville has been a great success ground for the Japanese owner, as his first purchase is none other than MIDLIFE CRISIS. Sold for €120,000 at the August Yearling Sale last year, the juvenile won easily in the Prix Le Bougnat on his debut last month and runs in the Prix du Chene (Gr.3) tomorrow at ParisLongchamp.

He’s a lovely colt by Siyouni, a very good stallion, said Shimizu. He’s very attractive. We hope he will follow in the footsteps of Midlife Crisis!

Lope de Vega colt for the Hong Kong Jockey Club

Bidding rose to €420,000 for a son of Lope de Vega consigned by Haras des Capucines. A half-brother to black-type performer MANTASTIC, the colt hails from the family of the excellent five-time Group 1 winner and Champion ALEXANDER GOLDRUN.

Knocked down to Mick Kinane, acting on behalf of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, the former jockey said,

 He is my favorite, he’s a lovely colt. We hope he’ll be a good racehorse.

A daughter of DUBAWI for Godolphin

Bids rocketed for a daughter of Dubawi both inside and outside the ring before she was knocked down to Anthony Stroud for €620,000. Offered from Baroda Stud out of Group 3 winning mare DAYTONA BAY, the filly is from a rich German black-type family that includes Group 1 winner DONALDSON. Buying once more on behalf of Godolphin, Anthony Stroud said, 

She’s a lovely filly - very athletic and with great confirmation. We’ve already had a lot of success with Dubawi. There was a lot of interest in the filly and so we are very happy. We’re delighted to be here at Deauville.

€300,000 for a half-sister to BOLLEVILLE

Potential buyers were carefully watching proceedings when a half-sister to dual Listed winner BOLLEVILLE from Haras des Sablonnets came through the ring, with Frederic Sauque having the final say at €300,000 for the daughter of Shalaa out of Listed winner BRASILEIRA. 

She is magnificent", said the agent. “I hope she will be as good as she is beautiful! Her half-sister is due to run in a Group 1 next week at the Curragh. I’ve bought her for a client that has already invested in trotters and now wishes to also be involved in the flat. I hope he will have lots of luck!

Son of LOPE DE VEGA sold for €480,000 to a Japanese client

A few lots later, it was another son of Lope de Vega that was subject to a lot of interest from buyers. Consigned by Haras du Mezeray, the colt hails from the close family of this season's St James’s Palace Stakes (Gr.1) WICHITA. Acting on behalf of a Japanese client, it was Sebastien Desmontils (Chauvigny Global Equine) that had the final say at €480,000. He commented,

He’s a son of Lope de Vega, an established stallion out a very current family that we know well in France. We are very happy. I’ve bought him for a Japanese client. We don’t yet know where he’ll go into training, all will be decided after he is broken and in view of the other colts that we might buy, however he will stay in France.

Son of LOPE DE VEGA for Godolphin

Offered from Haras d’Etreham, a son of LOPE DE VEGA out of the Group placed mare ALTA LILEA was knocked down to Anthony Stroud for €260,000. Bought on behalf of Godolphin, the agent said,

He’s a lovely colt that hails from a very good stud and walks very well. We don’t know yet where he will go into training, nor if he’ll stay in France. It all depends on what happens next.
