Son of Galileo for M.V. Magnier

Among the last lots to go through the ring, a son of Galileo out of group winner HIGH CELEBRITY was bought for €650,000 by M.V. Magnier. Offered by Haras des Capucines for Haras des Fresneaux, the colt is from the close family of multiple Grade 1 winner SURFSIDE and FLANDERS.

LOT 292&291
A son of Dubawi knocked down for €2 million

The auditorium was buzzing for the turn of the eagerly awaited son of Dubawi out of Prix Minerve (Gr.3) scorer GOLDEN VALENTINE in the ring, consigned by Ecurie des Monceaux. Anthony Stroud, bidding for Godolphin, had the final say at €2 million following a long bidding war for the grandson of GOLD ROUND, that was also a group winner from the excellent family of  GOLDIKOVA.

Hes an exceptional colt and a son of Dubawi, said Anthony Stroud. The whole team loved him - he was the horse of the sale for us - were delighted.

Just a few minutes earlier, the agent also signed the docket at €575,000 for a son of Lope De Vega (lot 291) from Haras du Cadran. The blue-blooded colt is a grandson of Group 1 winner GREY LILAS and is out of a sister to Classic winner GOLDEN LILAC and Group winner GREY LYON.

Hes a lovely colt that walks very well, said the agent. She is out of a daughter of Galileo from a great stud. We’re really happy to have got him.

LOT 287
€600,000 for a sister to GLYCON

Consigned by Haras de Saint Pair, a sister to triple group winner GLYCON was knocked down for €600,000. Bidding on behalf of Al Shira’aa Racing, Kieran Lalor had the final say for the daughter of the late Le Havre out of Listed winner GLORIOUS SIGHT. The well-bred filly is from the close family of Group 1 winners THE UNITED STATES, HYDRANGEA and HERMOSA.

After signing the docket, Kieran Lalor, manager d’Al Shira’aa Racing, said,

I think that she was one of the nicest fillies in the sale. Shes out of a very good mare and by Le Havre, an incredible stallion. Her brother is a Group 2 winner and she comes from a stud that needs no introduction. Under her second dam she comes from one of the best families I know, which has a lot of Group 1 winners. It’s been a while that we have wanted to buy into this family - we’re very happy!

€600,000 for a son of Dubawi

Already the buyer of a daughter of Dubawi for €575,000 yesterday, Anthony Stroud struck once again, this time for a son of the Godolphin sire from Écurie des Monceaux. The agent had the final say for the colt, that is out of Listed winner DUBAI ROSE, that has already produced group winner THE JULIET ROSE.

Hes a lovely colt by Dubawi, a stallion that doesnt need any introduction and with whom we have had a lot of success, said Anthony Stroud. His half-sister THE JULIET ROSE was a very good filly and he comes from a prestigious stud that breeds very good horses. He ticks all the boxes - all the team are very happy.

Daughter of Frankel for Charles Gordon-Watson

Offered from Haras d’Etreham, a daughter of Frankel out of Listed winner CRYSTAL RIVER was knocked down for €650,000. Charles Gordon-Watson had the final say for the well-bred filly from the family of Group 1 winners ROYAL MARINE, LIBRETTIST, DUBAI DESTINATION and AGNES WORLD.

After signing the docket, the agent said, 

Shes a magnificent filly with a superb pedigree page. Shes a daughter of Frankel, a remarkable stallion that had a Group 1 and Group 3 winner just yesterday at Deauville, and he dam is by Dubawi, one of the best crosses that one could find. Shell go to England and well decide on a trainer later.

LOT 237
Son of Sea The Stars for Legends Racing

Also offered from La Motteraye Consignment, a son of Sea The Stars out of Listed winner CHILDA was knocked down for €410,000. Bidding on behalf of Mr. Bon Ho - Legends Racing - Mark Mc Stay had the final word for the colt, also a half-brother to Prix La Force (Gr.3) scorer CHILEAN.

In 2020, the same team had struck for another son of the Aga Khan Studs’ stallion, also offered from La Motteraye, DEAUVILLE LEGEND, that won the Bahrain Trophy (Gr.3) last month.

Hes a very athletic colt that walks very well, said the agent. I love Sea The Stars and he has the pedigree - his dam has already produced well. Gwen and Lucie at La Motteraye recommended him to us, and we are delighted. Ive bought him for Mr Bon Ho. We have already been lucky at this sale, so we hope well have the same result with this one!

LOT 249
Son of Kingman sold for €800,000

Potential buyers surrounded the ring to see lot 249, a son of Kingman from Haras de Saint Pair go under the hammer. Bidding reached €800,000 for the half-brother to group winner GUILDSMAN, also from the family of classic winners ALMANZOR and DARJINA. 

The colt was knocked down to Oliver St Lawrence, that was bidding on behalf of the Bahreini Fawzi Nass. He said,

Andreas Putsch is a breeder that I have a lot of time for, said the agent. We loved this colt when we saw him. Hell go to William Haggas, who was here this weekend and really liked him too.

 

 

 

 

LOT 234
€400,000 for the first foal out of Classic winner CHANNEL

Among the opening lots on the third and final day of the August Yearling Sale, a daughter by Sea the Stars out of Classic winner CHANNEL offered from La Motteraye Consignment was subject to a lot of interest around the ring. Bidding on behalf of Jean-Louis Bouchard, Gérard Larrieu (Chantilly Bloodstock) went to €400,000 to secure the filly from the excellent family of Group 1 winners MAGICAL ROMANCE, ALEXANDROVA, MAGIC WAND and CHICQUITA.

Five years ago I bought a stud close to Deauville, and now the work is finished, I am looking for mares, said Jean-Louis Bouchard. This filly has everything to like about her - she walks very well and I really like her attitude. Her dam is a classic winner by Nathaniel, a good broodmare sire, and she is by Sea The Stars. I am very happy, and she will make broodmare and maybe even racehorse.

Daughter of Dubawi for Godolphin

Already the buyer of a daughter of Shamardal that made the top price of €1,6 million yesterday, Anthony Stroud struck today for a daughter of the Godolphin stallion out of Listed winner BIRCH GROVE, from Ecurie des Monceaux. Once again bidding on behalf of Godolphin, the agent had the final say for the granddaughter of multiple group winner DANEHURST, from the family of HUMOURESQUE, DAZZLE and HOORAY.

Shes a lovely filly by Dubawi, and is incredibly athletic, said Anthony Stroud. Shes from a great stud and were very happy with this purchase.

Daughter of Wootton Bassett knocked down for €750,000

A few moments later, the gavel fell at €750,000 for a daughter of Coolmore stallion Wootton Bassett from Haras de la Louvière. The English agent Richard Knight had the final say for the filly from the family of group winner ARMANDE from the leading maternal line of URBAN SEA.

Shes a stunning filly, that is for me the most beautiful in the sale, said the agent. I like Wootton Bassett, her dam won black-type and this is only her second foal. We really like her and she ticks all the boxes, so of course we are delighted! Ive bought her for one of my clients and she is likely to stay in France.

Daughter of Siyouni for RT Racing

Offered from Haras de la Louvière, a daughter of Siyouni out of group winner AIGUE MARINE was knocked down for €600,000. Nicolas Clément signed the docket for the half-sister to Listed winner FENELON, from the close family of Group winners AIGLONNE, MEKHTAAL, DEMOCRATE and NORMANDY BRIDGE.

I’ve bought her for Doctor Tallaj, said the Chantilly trainer. We met last year in Saratoga. Mr. Tallaj has horses with my brother Christophe, and we bought GALIFA here last December, that now runs in the colours of RT Racing, just like this filly will do.

Brother to SOTTSASS goes to Japan

The auditorium was buzzing for the turn of a brother to Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Gr.1) winner SOTTSASS through the ring. Offered from Ecurie des Monceaux, the colt was none other than a son of Siyouni out of STARLET'S SISTER, that has already produced the excellent SISTERCHARLIE and MY SISTER NAT, that have both shown themselves at the highest level on the other side of the Atlantic having already had a very good career in France.  

The hammer finally fell at €2,1 million in favour of the Japanese trainer Yoshito Yahagi, who trained LOVES ONLY YOU to win the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (Gr.1) last year, finishing just in front of MY SISTER NAT.  

I love this colt, said Yoshito Yahagi. He has an exceptional pedigree being a brother to Sottsass and My Sister Nat, that finished just behind us in the Breeders Cup last year. Hell come back to Japan and I hope he will win the Japanese Derby.

A little later in the evening, he also bought a son of Kingman (lot 183). Consigned by Domaine de l'Étang, the half-brother to Listed winner URWALAD out of Group 1 scorer WALDBIENE is out of the excellent family of Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Gr.1) winner WELDGESIT.

Very emotional following the sale, Élise Drouet commented, 

I don't have any words for the moment, mainly tears of joy. His prep went really well. He has always been beautiful since he was born at home. We'll follow his career closely.

LOT 148
Son of Frankel for Juddmonte Farms

The second day of the August Yearling Sale started in the same vein with a son of Frankel out of Rockfel Stakes (Gr.2) winner SPAIN BURG, from Haras de Saint Pair. Juddmonte Farms manager Simon Mockridge went to €450,000 for the colt from the family of group winners BEYROUTH, FLAME VALLEY, COMMON GROUNDS and ANGEL IN MY HEART.

SPAIN BURG was a very good two-year-old, said Simon Mockridge. He's by Frankel  who had a fantastic season with 7 seven Group 1 winners following the victory of INSPIRAL today, as well as another group winner with ETERNAL PEARL. Hell go back to Ireland to Barry Mahon to be broken and then well decide on his future trainer.

LOT 133
€675,000 for a son of Sea The Stars

Among the last lots to go under the hammer today was a first foal by Sea The Stars out of Listed winner SHAMTEE, that was knocked down for €675,000. Sébastien Desmontils (Chauvigny Global Equine) signed the docket for the colt from the family of Group 1 winners TERRITORIES, HELEN STREET, STREET CRY and VICTOR LUDORUM, from Haras du Mont dit Mont.

Hes a very nice colt that walks well, said Sebastien Desmontils. His physique is a mix between what you would expect of a Sea The Stars and a dam by Shamardal. Ive bought him for my Japanese client Mr. Hisaaki Saito, and were delighted! We dont know who will train him yet, but he is likely to be trained in Chantilly like all Mr. Saitos horses.

LOT 128
€570,000 for a half-sister to RUMI

Just a few lots later, bidding took off once again for a half-sister by Galileo to dual Group winner RUMI from Écurie des Monceaux. Bidding once again on behalf of Al Shira’aa Farms, Kieran Lalor signed the docket at €570,000 for the filly from the excellent maternal family of PLUMANIA. He said,

Shes a lovely filly, very elegant. She comes from a prestigious stud and is by Galileo, that I think is the best stallion we have ever known. Its a lovely family, and we bought her half-sister RUMI at the August Sale in 2019. She has everything to be a Group 1 winner and she is entered in the Prix Jean Romanet next weekend. We’re very happy with this purchase.

€580,000 for the first foal out of Listed winner SAPA INCA

A little later in the day, the same team struck for a son of Siyouni from Ecurie des Monceaux. Michel Zerolo (Oceanic Bloodstock), bidding on behalf of Peter Brant and Coolmore once again, went to €580,000 for the first foal out of Listed winner SAPA INCA, herself a sister to Critérium International (Gr.1) winner JOHANNES VERMEER and Group 2 scorer ELIZABETH BROWNING.

LOT 75
Half-sister to Grand Prix de Paris winner ONESTO sold for €460,000

Camas Park & Glenvale Studs offered a half-sister to ONESTO, that after winning the Prix Greffulhe (Gr.2), went on to take the Grand Prix de Paris (Gr.1) at ParisLongchamp after the catalogue was published. Bidding on behalf of Coolmore and Peter Brant, Michel Zerolo (Oceanic Bloodstock) went to €460,000 for the daughter of Gleneagles, from the excellent family of HASILI, that has notably produced dual Grade 1 winner INTERCONTINENTAL.

 

LOT 62
€550,000 for a half-sister to NATIVE TRAIL

Buyers made sure they were present for the turn of a half-sister to champion NATIVE TRAIL through the ring, crowned European Champion Two-Year-Old and winner of the Irish 2,000 Guineas (Gr.1) this season. Bidding on behalf of Al Shira’aa Racing, Kieran Lalor had the final say at €550,000 for the daughter of Siyouni from Haras d’Haspel. The well-bred filly hails from the close family of Haydock Park Sprint Cup (Gr.1) winner AFRICAN ROSE and Dewhurst Stakes (Gr.1) scorer DISTANT MUSIC.

After signing the docket, Kieran Lalor, Manager of Al Shira’aa Racing, said,

She is by Siyouni, a stallion that needs no introduction, out of a very active family with black-type all over the page. Were really happy and are very hopeful for her future."

Son of Shamardal knocked down for €1,6 million

Eagerly awaited in the ring, a son of Shamardal out of Group winner LADY FRANKEL was knocked down for €1,6 million. Bidding on behalf of Godolphin, Anthony Stroud had the final say for the colt from the close family of the very talented  LADY VETTORI, LOPE DE VEGA, BAL DE LA ROSE, DANCETERIA and BLOSSOMTIME, offered by Gestüt Ammerland. 

Hes a lovely colt that walks well, said the agent. He is by Shamardal, a fantastic stallion with which we have had a lot of success. Were very happy - he comes from a great family and a renowned nursery.

€550,000 for a daughter of Wootton Bassett

The first select yearling sale in the European calendar, ARQANA’s prestigious August Yearling Sale began on Saturday 13 August at the Elie de Brignac complex in Deauville.  Among the first lots to go under the hammer was a half-sister to Prix de Psyché (Gr.3) winner PENJA. MV Magnier signed the docket for €550,000 for the daughter of Wootton Bassett from the family of Group winner FRANKYFOURFINGERS offered by the Haras de Castillon.
